After reading Gentle Giant Octopus to learn more about octopuses, we discovered that the author used many similes to help us understand, feel and imagine what was happening in the story. Similes help us to 'paint a picture' in the minds of our readers. We explored similes a bit more during our Writer's Workshop today. Ask me to give you an example to show you I understood how similes are used.
