Heartprints
Today we read Heartprints a  story by P.K. Hallinan that defines 'heartprints' as gestures of kindness and love towards others without expecting anything in return. Students came up with ways to leave heartprints in our classroom, at CA, home and the larger community. We also talked about things that our friends may do that might make us feel sad. We discussed the power of our actions and words and  how these may leave its own print on our hearts.

Today our students were introduced to some of our Workstations. Throughout the year our students will spend up 30 minutes a day in these workstations. With a partner they will to explore, apply what they have learned, practice responsible work habits and independence in the classroom. The stations that were opened this week are light and easy for students to join right away and are featured below. Coming soon are the pocket chart station, math magic, writing workshop, the handwriting station, fine motor, poetry and many more. These stations will change throughout the year to reflect the themes, skills and content we are teaching. You will hear more about these stations on Parent Night!

Today we made our faces. We chose our skin and hair color and used crayons to draw and color our eyes. We talked about what makes us the same and what makes us different. To support this activity we began with reading, We Are All Alike... We Are All Different written and illustrated by the Cheltenham Elementary School Kindergarteners.
We used small mirrors to take a closer look at ourselves

We learned to 'circle up' and play freeze tag
We played Higgity Biggity Bumble Bee to practice our names

REMINDERS

Tomorrow, August 23rd, you are welcome to begin using the carpool lane to drop your child off for school. If they arrive between 7 and 730 they will be greeted and escorted down to the CASE room. At 730 they will attend morning recess where they will get some outside time before class begins. This is a great way for some of our friends to get out their morning wiggles and connect with friends before we begin our morning meeting and routine.

If you did not sign up for a conference time for our 'get to know you' conference, please do so tomorrow. The sign up sheet is located outside of our classroom. The schedule will be posted soon.
Sent home with your child today was a page we would like you to fill out before our conference. Please return this to school when you have completed it.

Please make sure you have also filled out the transportation form. This form tells us how your child will be going home each day. Will they go to carpool, CASE or take the bus? Please turn that in A.S.A.P. This form was on yellow tag located outside of our classroom.
