Today we read Cat Tale by Michael Hall. We are fortunate enough to now have a signed copy in our class library. This story introduced the concept of homonyms in an age appropriate and entertaining way. Can you spot these homonyms?

KD students worked together to measure to the nearest foot the length of eight different sharks. Sharks were as long as 27 feet and as short as 3. Who knew there were so much diversity in the lengths of sharks?!

Manatees!

After reading about mantes, Kd students created their own snuggly versions of the sea cows. Some included interesting details such as bristly muzzles, nostrils placed on the top, and scars along the backsides. It's AMAZING to see what great marine biologists we have become in these recent projects.

Wear your beach wear tomorrow for Ocean Rotations!

After reading Gentle Giant Octopus to learn more about octopuses, we discovered that the author used many similes to help us understand, feel and imagine what was happening in the story. Similes help us to 'paint a picture' in the minds of our readers. We explored similes a bit more during our Writer's Workshop today. Ask me to give you an example to show you I understood how similes are used.

This game, Top It, allows Kindergarteners to identify numbers in a variety of ways. Some numbers were shown using die, pictures to count, fingers, tallies, base ten blocks, money, time to the whole hour and in word form. Similar to the game of War, Top It is played card by card, high or low card wins depending on what what decided at the start of the game. A great quick way to explore how numbers are represented.

Mrs. Mullin came to visit the Kindergarten hallway today and shared her experiences and expertise as a seasoned scuba diver. She demonstrated how she uses her gear to explore the ocean underwater and breathe. She also shared the many pictures she has taken of underwater animals including some sharks and barracuda!!! Thank you for taking the time to come in and share.
