* REMINDER
Tomorrow, Friday, March 1, we will be celebrating Read Across America.  This is the last day to donate one gently used picture book for the Lower School Service project.  In honor of Dr. Seuss, we will also wear red and/or white on the top with dress code on the bottom We will have a fun Seuss filled day!

Literacy Stations

KD students continue to explore and participate in a variety of literacy stations that improve our reading and writing skills. Here are some of our recent activities.
Lucia and Xavier work to sort and record long and short /u/ sounds.

Bennet works hard to decipher the secret word code. Looking at each picture and recording the beginning sound reveals the secret high frequency word.

This listening station activity allows Peter to scan a QR code with the ipad then listen and watch short videos related to the ocean.

Seth and Gavin are working at the Overhead station to read CVC words and Connect 4 to win.
Anna is working on a word search. She looks through a book to find  and record specific beginning and ending sounds, digraphs, and CVC words.
Katie continues to enjoy the tub in her literacy station, the reading garden.

Abraham Lincoln visited our classroom this past Friday! A cartoon drawn to the actual height of President Lincoln, 6'3". Students were asked to choose a unit of measurement and measure his height. Some students used rulers, kindergarten feet, teddy bears, popsicle sticks and kindergarteners! We will talk more about how some went about measuring, was the way they measured accurate? etc.

Look for Abe in our hallway this week!

TOMORROW!
Dress down in athletic attire (red or pink shirts)
to support Jump Rope for Heart
February 14, 2013

Tomorrow is not only a celebration of Valentine's Day in the Lower School, but for grades 1-4 it is a day to participate in Jump Rope For Heart.  Although Kindergarten does not “officially” jump, they have been learning jump rope techniques during P.E. and some classes will go to the gyms to encourage siblings, friends and Fourth Grade buddies who are jumping.  As such, Kindergartners may dress down in athletic gear (red or pink shirts, only if you have it)
